Deon Lotz (born 20 July 1964 in Cape Town) is a multi-award-winning South African actor. He is popular with television viewers for being cast in many films and productions.

On the international scene, he is best known for his role in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom among others. As an actor, he has appeared in television series, featured films, and theater productions.

He was born in the port city – Cape Town on 20 July 1964. While he grew up, he engaged in activities relating to entertainment and arts. As a teenager, Lotz was a singer for the Drakensberg Boys Choir.

He was born into a family of four children and is the second youngest. He has two older siblings (brother and sister) and a younger sibling (brother).

Before he rose to prominence his occupation was managing a hotel. At the beginning of his work, he appeared in television adverts. The Cape Town-based actor works as an actor full time and visits Jo’burg for work-related purposes.



Lotz was cast in a starring role in the film directed by Oliver Hermanus titled Beauty (Skoonheid) in 2011. In the same year, he was honored with the Best Actor award at Zurich Film Festival for his role in the film.

More recognition followed in the following year, he was the recipient of the Best Actor in a Feature Film for his role in Beauty at the SAFTA.

In the 2013 feature film titled Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, he was cast as Kobie Coetzee.

He received the Best Supporting Male at the 2013 kykNET Silwerskeemfees (Silver Screen Festival). His role in the film Faan se Trein earned him the accolade.

In 2015, he bagged the South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for Best Supporting Actor.


He has appeared in many television series like Fishy Feshuns, Charlie Jade, and Orion. In the South African, Afrikaans-language, police procedural TV drama series Projek Dina, he played the role of Dawid.

He was the recipient of the 2016 South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA).

He bagged the award under the category of Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama. His role as Kobus Landman in When We Were Black earned him the accolade.


He has also held performances in several local theatre productions. As an actor, he has also being recognized for the roles he played in the productions.

In 2015, he smiled home with the Best Supporting Actor awards at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees. His roles in Die Seemeeu and Moeder Moed en Haar Kinders earned him the recognition.

In 2008 at the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, he was a nominee for Best Actor for his role in Wrestlers.
